SPAR France retailer Olivier Servant has been recognised as France’s Best Independent Retailer (symbol group) for 2019-2020 at the prestigious European Franchised Retail and Symbol Group Association (IREF) awards. Mr Servant operates a successful SPAR Supermarket together with Ingrid Tholmer in Les Hameaux de Val in Val d’Isère, an internationally renowned winter sports destination.

After starting his career as a retail employee in 2005, Mr Servant became an independent retailer in 2009. His 380m2 SPAR store employs eight staff members and is renowned for its selection of fruit and vegetables, as well as its range of wines and spirits in particular.

Mr Servant plays an active role in supporting the local community. He is a proud sponsor of both the local ski school and the local sports club. SPAR France stores are typically located in tourist areas, where the international recognition of the brand stands as a warranty for customers in terms of high-quality retail standards.

About SPAR France

SPAR was introduced to France in 1955 with the current partner, Casino Group, being granted the licence to operate the brand in the 1990s. As a result of the scale of Casino operations, SPAR has benefitted from the existing distribution network and has expanded nationwide. Both store formats and customer offer continue to develop. Shoppers continue to favour local produce and products as well as neighbourhood stores. The SPAR concept, operated primarily by independent retailers, fits this trend and has seen a rejuvenation of its offer.
