SPAR Denmark retailer wins prestigious FMI Store Manager Award

June 22, 2021 IN THE CATEGORY: Awards and prizes

SPAR International is delighted to announce that Malene Hansen, an independent SPAR retailer in Denmark, has won the prestigious FMI Store Manager Award in the international category, run by the US-based Food Marketing Institute (FMI).

Malene is a successful local retailer, a well-known member of the Haderup community, and a tutor for fellow SPAR retailers. Her enthusiasm for grocery retailing is reflected by her team and the excellent service they provide.

A recent investment in expanding the store led to an additional 110m2 being added, expanding the fruit and vegetable, delicatessen, and convenience ranges on offer.

One element of her success is the very hands-on approach with her team and with customers, interacting through social media and instore, gathering feedback on the retail offer, and giving advice. Malene has strong roots in the Haderup community, interacting with local schools and charities, with a particular focus on reducing food waste and improving sustainability.

Following the online people’s pick earlier this month, FMI held an online award ceremony on 17 June, announcing winners in all categories. Every year, FMI members nominate top store manager talent from their stores as part of our Store Manager Award program. For the virtual celebration, SPAR delegates from around the world could join in and celebrate the 2021 finalists, who stand out for their dedication, community commitment and innovation.

FMI awards are given to outstanding managers who generate sales growth, effectively communicate company and store goals and objectives, demonstrate team leadership in their store/company, provide exceptional customer service through in-store programs and improve community relations.

The Store Manager Awards and the live, virtual celebration were generously sponsored by The Coca-Cola Company.
