Children are the future and education is their best way forward; because of this, SPAR Botswana is supporting schools and children in need. During the recent lockdown, SPAR Botswana provided funding for a range of education related initiatives.

Schools and orphans supported

The daughter of a supermarket manager of SPAR Acacia in Gaborone initiated a fundraising campaign for reading books, coloured pencils, and stationery in aid of the local SOS Children’s Home. Customers at SPAR Acacia were invited to donate the items by placing them in a shopping trolley at the store’s entrance.

Segopotso Primary School in Kanye welcomed the donation of school shoes for 58 children by their local SPAR Supermarket. Yet another donation to a school local to SPAR Marang near Francistown enabled the hosting of their Spelling B competition.

Thanks to charity campaigns at local SPAR stores throughout the nation, school uniforms were donated to 35 children at Mpelege Caring Centre in Palapye. School tracksuits were donated to Makoloiwane Primary School in Serowe and Ramonaka Village school in Kgatleng District. Oodi Primary School in Gaborone were grateful to receive school suppliers for 20 of their students who could not provide these themselves. Phaphane Primary School in Mochudi welcomed the donation of school uniforms for 17 pupils by a nearby SPAR Supermarket.

When the Pioneer Academy in Ghanzi held a fun day, the local SPAR Supermarket donated food. The event was successful in ensuring everyone had an unforgettable day and raised a substantial amount of funds for the Pioneer Academy.

Sporting equipment was donated to the 944 pupils in the school in Palapye, fostering an interest in netball and football among the children. The Botswana Society for the Deaf welcomed the donation of 15 Smart Tablets, a Smart TV, and school uniforms.

Little Miss Sunshine Preschool in the Village, Gaborone, was in desperate need of aid after their facilities had fallen in disrepair. The local SPAR Supermarket funded the reparations of all the ceilings, the installation of new toilets, and the purchase of mattresses for the children to sleep on.

Vegetable gardens support healthy lifestyles

Several SPAR Supermarkets in Botswana have supported the opening of vegetable gardens. In the first few months of this year, additional support has been given to Maradu Primary School in Francistown and Sebeso School in Palapye to set up such vegetable plots. The financial support makes it possible to provide freshly grown produce for children and their families.
