September 30, 2021 IN THE CATEGORY: Store openings

New DESPAR and DESPAR Express store openings have expanded the SPAR Brand in several regions across Italy. Designed with a focus on fresh produce and convenience, the new stores offer a pleasant shopper environment and personal service.

Fresh quality for local shoppers

SPAR Italy’s DESPAR format responds to the needs of today’s consumers. It offers both convenience and high-quality products in a shopping environment marked by friendly and professional service. DESPAR Express stores have an increased focus on convenience for consumers with busy lifestyles.

Targeting residents and people on the go, centrally located DESPAR and DESPAR Express stores offer a wide assortment of fresh, ready-to-eat, and convenience items across all food departments.

SPAR Own Brand products are another important part of the assortment, offering quality and variety at the best value. Local sourcing is key to both fresh and private label items, in line with SPAR’s strategy of supporting local communities. In SPAR Italy’s neighbourhood stores, 98% of fresh and private label products available are sourced domestically.

New store in Reggio Emilia

SPAR Italy partner Aspiag Service has opened a DESPAR store in the heart of Reggio Emilia, an important central city with a strong culinary tradition. The 760m2 company-owned store is a welcome addition to this central district.

The store features self-service departments for fresh produce, bakery, fresh meats, and fresh fish, as well as a served delicatessen counter. A strong focus is placed on locally sourced products from the finest culinary traditions, including fresh pasta, cheese, and cured meats.

Gruppo 3A announces DESPAR store in Turin

SPAR Italy partner Gruppo 3A celebrated the opening of a new DESPAR store on 16 September in Turin’s Via Don Bosco. Designed for everyday shopping convenience, this independent DESPAR store offers a welcome service to residents of the north-western city.

“Our DESPAR store fits with the essence of the SPAR Brand, enhancing local communities,” says Carmine Leo, who owns the new DESPAR store in Via Don Bosco, as well as two other DESPAR outlets in Turin.

“We aim to earn our customers’ trust to be their destination for everyday shopping through the high retailing standards we offer”, says co-owner Massimo Leo, Carmine’s brother.

About SPAR Italy

SPAR Italy, known locally as DESPAR Italia, was first granted the SPAR Brand’s licence in 1959. The first store opened in 1960. With it, SPAR became the first partnership of retailers and wholesalers to operate in the country. In addition, SPAR Italy licenses regional partners, all of whom work together to grow the brand across the country.

The DESPAR Partners operate stores under three formats: DESPAR Neighbourhood Supermarkets, EUROSPAR Supermarkets, and INTERSPAR Hypermarkets. Many of the larger format stores are company-owned, reflecting the scale of investment required. While the company achieves most of its turnover through these larger format stores, the independently owned neighbourhood supermarkets remain vital.
