Successful SPAR International Driver Competition 2025 held in Södertälje, Sweden

With two previous successful events, the SPAR International Driver Competition returned for the third year. In addition, the Transport Action Group meeting took place, providing a valuable opportunity for enhanced discussions and collaboration among participants. 

The exciting competition took place this year at the Scania Demo Centre and Test Track in Södertälje, Sweden. A total of 14 drivers and 13 transport managers were in attendance at the competition this year, including those from SPAR Ireland licensed operator BWG Foods, SPAR UK wholesalers Henderson Group, A.F. Blakemore, and James Hall & Co. Ltd, as well as SPAR Hungary, SPAR Norway, SPAR Austria, and SPAR Croatia.

Drivers were put through their paces across different challenges, including driver safety knowledge, navigation, parking and braking, fuel efficiency, and calm and safe driving. The coveted title ‘SPAR International Driver of the Year 2025′ was tightly contested, with Kristijan Kristaj from SPAR Austria taking home the coveted title. Manfred Weißenböck from SPAR Austria finished in second place, with Carl Stirk from SPAR UK wholesaler James Hall & Co. Ltd rounding out the top three. All participants showcased excellence in their skills in vehicle management.

In addition, the Transport Action Group meeting took place alongside the Driver Competition, focusing on the topic of AI and machine learning within transport. The meeting provided a valuable opportunity for enhanced discussions and collaboration among participants, ensuring that the latest advancements and technologies are shared amongst the wider SPAR network.
