SPAR South Africa was delighted to receive the prestigious Sponsor of the Year Award at the Momentum gSport Awards. This honour celebrates SPAR South Africa’s outstanding 34-year commitment to supporting women’s sports in the country.

Legacy in Women’s Sports

Over the past three decades, SPAR South Africa has promoted women’s athletics through flagship events like the SPAR Women’s 10km Challenge. The 10km Challenge, launched in 1990, has inspired thousands of women to participate in road running, becoming the world’s largest women-only running series, with races in cities across the country.

SPAR South Africa has also played a key role in promoting netball, the nation’s leading women’s sport. The company has sponsored the SPAR Netball Proteas for 25 years. This makes it the longest-running naming rights sponsorship of a national team in the country. This sponsorship was recently extended to cover the 2027 Netball World Cup, supporting the sport’s growth.

Empowering Women

“We are deeply honoured by this recognition,” said Mpudi Maubane, SPAR South Africa National PR, Communications, and Sponsorship Manager. “SPAR South Africa has always been committed to empowering women, not just in sports but in all aspects of life. We will continue to support and uplift women both on and off the field.”

Cecilia Molokwane, President of Netball South Africa, praised SPAR South Africa for its dedication to women’s sports, emphasising the company’s vital role in advancing women’s athletics when others focused on male-dominated activities.

SPAR South Africa remains dedicated to uplifting women across South Africa, ensuring their continued success in the world of sports.
