2,000 trees were donated by SPAR Zimbabwe to the city of Harare, which were distributed across the 36 council schools in the city.

SPAR Zimbabwe partnered with the local bank CABS and My Trees Trust, who have supported SPAR Zimbabwe’s tree planting initiatives in recent years through providing indigenous tree seedlings. The main tree planting event was held at Budiriro 7 Council School, a school planting trees on its premises for the first time.

At the planting event at Budiriro 7 Council School, Acting Mayor of Harare, Womberaishe Nhende, said “We would like to thank SPAR Zimbabwe and its partners for the tree donation at all the Harare Council Schools and for recognising the importance of protecting and restoring our environment.  We are encouraging residents to join and plant many trees in your areas to avert climate changes effects.”

Moses Chihuri, Corporate Affairs Executive at SPAR Zimbabwe stated that, “as a fairly new school, we are happy that SPAR Zimbabwe, CABS, My Trees, the school team, Acting Mayor Councillor Womberaiishe Nhende, and all Council members present are the pioneers of planting trees which will go on to be the school’s landmark to remind our children of our heritage and the different benefits that these trees bring to our livelihood.”

In line with its sustainability core value of “We Owe Today to Tomorrow,” SPAR Zimbabwe’s planting of trees not only enhances the environment but also provides a sustainable future for generations to come.
