The partnership allows SPAR stores to meet rising consumer demand for on-demand delivery, with Deliveroo customers having access to around 2,000 food and drink products from participating SPAR stores.
From 22 June, 66 SPAR stores are available from Deliveroo, with the ambition to onboard as many independent and company-owned stores as possible.
SPAR UK’s southwest regional wholesaler, Appleby Westward, has the rollout underway and already has 50 stores available on Deliveroo.
SPAR UK Strategy and Operations Director Lee Johnson said: “We are thrilled to be partnering with Deliveroo. “This deal will enable SPAR stores to continue their rapid expansion into on-demand delivery. Local communities are at the heart of SPAR, and our mission is to provide shoppers with choice and access to essential items.
“During the pandemic, SPAR stores around the UK extended their service to communities by providing a variety of e-commerce delivery and call & collect solutions to local consumers. We are looking to accelerate this trend and cater to even more customers in the vicinity of SPAR stores by partnering with Deliveroo.
“Our partnership with Deliveroo will enable us to reach more customers, meet their ever-changing shopping habits and drive significant revenue uplift for stores. As our visibility on the Deliveroo platform grows, so will the opportunity for us to differentiate from our competitors,” he added.
Consumers can order groceries from their local SPAR store and have them delivered in as little as 20 minutes by Deliveroo. This step will allow SPAR stores to extend their customer base and compete in this fast-growing home delivery market.
Carlo Mocci, Chief Business Officer UK&I, Deliveroo, said: “SPAR is a familiar and welcome sight in many local neighbourhoods. This partnership brings even more choice and convenience to people’s doorsteps. Deliveroo customers can choose from a huge range of groceries, food, little luxuries, and daily essentials. SPAR is a welcome addition for households across the UK. ”

The UK became a SPAR member in 1956 when SPAR International granted the SPAR licence to a group of independent wholesalers. As a result, there are now five regional partners in the UK. A central office in London provides national marketing and buying services for the group.
SPAR has led the highly competitive convenience market in the UK for many years. Always innovative, the five regional partners continue to grow the brand. SPAR UK comprises independently owned licensed retailers and company-owned stores. These include forecourts, airports, train stations, city centres, and local neighbourhood stores.
