SPAR UAE has supported the Ma’an campaign by distributing food baskets worth AED 28 million (€6,585,000) to approximately 42,000 families since the outbreak of the pandemic. The food baskets contain rice, flour, sugar, cooking oil, water, and other basic food commodities sourced from SPAR UAE suppliers Agthia, Abu Dhabi Vegetable Oil, and Al Dahra, among others.
Some of the food hampers were distributed through SPAR stores while others were delivered to the homes of affected families.
The charitable campaign is part of a wider Social Fund used to support the health sector and deliver food packages to people in quarantine.
“Our community has pulled together in an unprecedented way in response to the current health and economic challenges that are impacting not only Abu Dhabi, but the rest of the world”, said Salama Al Ameeri, director general of Ma’an.
SPAR UAE has confirmed that it will continue supporting the Ma’an campaign throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, in coordination with Abu Dhabi’s Authority for Social Contribution.
There is a toll-free helpline (800-3088) and a website for those in need of relief to contact them.
This is another example of ensuring food security for customers, working in partnership with the government.

About SPAR UAE
The first SPAR store was opened in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 2012 after SPAR International granted the SPAR licence to Abu Dhabi Co-operative Society (ADCOOPS), to develop the brand in this rapidly growing market.
SPAR UAE operates three SPAR formats: SPAR Hypermarket, SPAR Supermarket, and SPAR Express. All stores have well developed fresh sections, demonstrating the intention to be ‘best in fresh’. The brand is performing strongly in the UAE – meeting the diverse needs of the multicultural society.
To meet the growing demand, a new warehouse in Dubai became operational, reflecting the investment in future supply chains. This was paired with the introduction of inventory management best practice and a modern warehouse management system.
