In 2023, DESPAR Italia launched the “Bosco Diffuso DESPAR” reforestation initiative with PlanBee, aiming to improve areas where DESPAR consortium companies operate. Each region will undertake the planting of selected tree varieties to benefit local communities. The project is carried out in collaboration with local non-profit organisations specialising in environmental regeneration and involves communities, local authorities, and schools. Over 3,000 trees were planted in 2023 and 2024.
In 2024, SPAR Poland carried out the second edition of its “Let’s plant trees together!” campaign. 9,700 trees were planted in the Marianowo Forest following a nearly €3,000 donation to the Łopuchówko Forest District. SPAR stores customers and volunteers supported the campaign.
Since 2010, SPAR Gran Canaria has collaborated with the non-profit Foresta Foundation to conserve the Canary Islands’ forests. Every year, SPAR Gran Canaria holds a reforestation day, during which employees and their families volunteer to reforest areas of the island that have been identified by Foresta Foundation as needing regeneration.
To offset carbon emissions from two of its events, SPAR Hungary planted 418 indigenous fruit trees in 2024. The trees were sourced from a Hungarian nursery to ensure gene conservation. SPAR Hungary distributed the treees to schools and non-profit gardens, providing educational and community gardening opportunities while preserving biodiversity.
At the end of 2024, SPAR Zimbabwe donated 2,000 trees to the capital city Harare which were distributed across 36 council schools in the city. Partnering with a local bank and My Trees Trust, SPAR Zimbabwe’s initiative enhances the environment and ensures a sustainable future.
