The promotion of health and wellness is a key priority for SPAR with supermarkets promoting fresh, locally-sourced produce on a daily basis. Commenting on SPAR Switzerland’s sponsorship of these events, Karin Locher, Marketing Director at SPAR Switzerland said: “To see the radiant faces of women as they cross the finish line is just great. There is always a fun and relaxed atmosphere at these events and we are proud to be part of them and to be able to provide the runners with fresh fruit and water at the finish line.”
Women’s race in Basel
The first race takes place on Sunday 6 May, when women of all ages will gather at the market square in Basel to take part in either the 10 km or 5 km running races. The runners can compete individually or in groups with children and friends.
The marketplace in the centre of Basel will be the start and end point for both distances, as well as a festive gathering spot for the more than 1,000 participants and their supporters. SPAR Switzerland will have its own stand offering visitors a voucher for the purchase of a towel and a 10% discount coupon to use in one of the three SPAR Supermarkets in Basel. There will also be a special SPAR gift for women.
Women’s run in Winterthur
In Winterthur, the women’s run will take place for the fourth time on Sunday 24 June. Here, too, SPAR will be represented with its own stand and will offer participants a welcome refreshment as well as a free gift. In addition to supporting the event, SPAR Switzerland will actively participate in the race with its own team.
Pink Ribbon Walk in Zurich
The Pink Ribbon Walk on 2 September in Zurich is an important race in support of breast cancer awareness. The walk, which will be held for the 11th time, is open to both men and women, with proceeds from the entry fees going to the Cancer League Zurich for the support of breast cancer patients.
With its newly-formed Pink Ribbon partnership, SPAR is supporting the campaign against breast cancer in Switzerland. As with the run in Winterthur, SPAR Switzerland will participate in the Pink Ribbon Walk with a team of approximately 50 people.

About SPAR Switzerland
SPAR Switzerland, originally an independent family-owned company with a local shareholder structure, was founded in 1989, when it was granted the licence by SPAR International to operate the brand.
In 2000, the family-owned business was transformed into a holding company with three operating companies: SPAR Handels AG, TopCC AG and SPAR Management AG. This move helped to give the company a modern, future-oriented structure. The business has recorded steady growth over the years, combining corporate and independently owned stores, spanning forecourt retailing to large supermarkets.
In early 2016, SPAR Switzerland announced the sale of 60% of shares to SPAR Group Limited, South Africa.
