SPAR supports charities in the festive season

Throughout the year, SPAR Partners worldwide have shown their support to local communities in many different ways. The season of giving is an opportunity to offer that little bit more to those in need, particularly during a year like this. Here we share some of these meaningful initiatives run by our international SPAR country organisations.

SPAR Switzerland’s Make a Wish campaign

For the third consecutive year, SPAR Switzerland has invited its customers to fill out wish cards instore or submit a wish online to support local charities or individuals. SPAR will select and grant a host of wishes right in time for Christmas, thereby donating over €76,000 to support those in need.

SPAR UK James Hall & Co. Ltd donates school supplies and clothing for Ukraine

SPAR UK regional partner James Hall & Co. Ltd, primary wholesaler and distributor for the North of England, supports ‘Recycling Lives’, a leading British charity, in their Ukraine Appeal this Christmas with a donation of 16 pallets of school stationery for 230 children. These will be packed into individual boxes with warm clothing and left for Ukraine last week to arrive in Ukraine in time for Christmas.

SPAR Slovenia’s Christmas Charity campaigns

SPAR Slovenia continues to support people in need in December, the month of giving. This is the 11th year that SPAR Slovenia cooperates with the charity Ana’s Stars to donate food products and, in addition, collect toys to support three charitable organisations.

SPAR Hungary launches 26th Joy to Give campaign

In the run-up to Christmas, SPAR Hungary and the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service are running their 26th Joy to Give campaign this year. Customers are invited to buy donation cards in SPAR Hungary’s stores and online shop to support people in need as of 1 December. Additionally, volunteers of the Maltese Charity Service will collect non-perishable food in SPAR and INTERSPAR stores from 15 to 20 December 2022. Customers can add a personal message to make the holidays of others even more joyful.

SPAR Denmark drives customers home for Christmas

For the sixth time, SPAR Denmark is offering over 800 Danes a free ride home for Christmas. With over 40 Christmas-decorated buses, SPAR offers a cosy alternative to public transport. On 23 December, the buses will run 38 routes across the country. The initiative shows SPAR Denmark’s commitment to its local communities and is very popular among students and families with limited resources.

SPAR Gran Canaria supports the sale of the Las Palmas Down Syndrome Association’s calendar

This month of December, SPAR Gran Canaria is contributing to the work of the Las Palmas Down Syndrome Association for the fourth consecutive year. Three thousand solidarity calendars are on sale in almost all SPAR Supermarkets on the island until mid January 2023. The proceeds will benefit more than a hundred beneficiaries. Association’s members are the models and photographers of the calendar’s everyday scenes. The spontaneity and enthusiasm of the images reflect that they are the protagonists of their own lives and no passive subjects at all.

SPAR NI doubles Tearfund’s customer donations

This Christmas, SPAR NI is partnering with Tearfund, a Christian charity to tackle poverty in some of the poorest countries in the world.  SPAR NI doubles all Christmas Appeal donations given in SPAR and EUROSPAR stores or online throughout November and December.
