The SPAR supermarket Heverlee in Belgium reopened its doors in October following an extensive refurbishment that has transformed the store into a modern, sustainable, and welcoming shopping destination. The supermarket now features updated shelves and fittings, a refreshed sliced cold meat and cheese department, and a relocated bread section.

A well-established presence in the Heverlee neighbourhood, the SPAR  supermarket has been managed by Luc and Anny Coenen for over two decades. Today, they continue to run the supermarket with their sons Erik and Bart and daughter-in-law Elke, supported by a dedicated team of 12 permanent members and several enthusiastic students.

“The dynamic in our team is great. With so many young, energetic people, it is a pleasure to work together and help customers,” shared the Coenen family.

The revamped SPAR supermarket Heverlee includes various new developments and innovations. These include a wide and fresh selection of fruit and vegetables, as well as freshly baked bread rolls, baguettes, and other breads daily. An extensive and diverse assortment of groceries provides a comprehensive shopping location for customers. This includes freshly sliced cold meats and cheeses, now packaged using modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) for extended freshness and convenience. Sustainability remains a top priority for SPAR Retail Partners Colruyt Group in Belgium. The supermarket now operates with new CO₂ cooling systems that reuse residual heat to warm the store. All cooling units are equipped with doors to enhance energy efficiency.
