SPAR Gran Canaria stores join food donation campaign

June 18, 2024 IN THE CATEGORY: Community, Responsible retailing

From May 24 to 26, SPAR Supermarkets in Gran Canaria were once again collection points for food donated by customers to the Spring Collection campaign, supporting the Las Palmas Food Bank.

This campaign aims to meet the needs of associations and families relying on the Las Palmas Food Bank. Supporting such worthy causes aligns with SPAR Gran Canaria’s responsible retailing.

SPAR Gran Canaria has been donating goods for over 25 years. In 2023, the retailer collected more than 61,000 kilos of food during two campaigns promoted by the Food Bank. Volunteers are vital to such campaigns, with 374 people assisting with the collections in the stores. The staple foods most needed for this campaign include oil, milk, canned fish and meat, legumes, rice, pasta, water, coffee, and cocoa. These products are available in stores across the SPAR retail network on the island. The sizeable donation was stacked on 26 palletes and 75 rolltainers for delivery to the food bank.

In addition to supporting these campaigns, SPAR Gran Canaria remains committed to aiding families in the territory. This year, the company also held two product gift campaigns, distributing 1,700 SPAR Own Brand products with a total value of €71,000 to its customers.

About SPAR Spain

SPAR Spain was founded in 1959 when a group of wholesalers who wished to join an international organisation came together. As a result, the brand became the first voluntary trading chain to be established in Spain, having been granted a license by SPAR International. Together, 13 regional SPAR wholesalers actively continue the expansion of the brand across the country.
