SPAR Spain continues to increase its presence with a string of new store openings and renovations by partners Fragadis, Roges Supermercats and SPAR Gran Canaria. Ranging from small convenience stores to large supermarkets, the new openings are helping to strengthen SPAR’s position in the Spanish market.

Fragadis

Fragadis, the SPAR Partner for Tarragona, Lérida, Barcelona sur, Castellón and Aragón, re-opened a local neighbourhood SPAR Supermarket in the city of Altorricón, Huesca. The store not only underwent a complete revamp but also tripled its original sales area to 600m². It now has all the features of a modern supermarket with wider aisles and fully serviced meat, deli and fish counters, complemented by self service areas for fruit and vegetables, bread and a variety of organic products. LED technology provides sustainable high-quality lighting, while information screens inspire customers with recipes and promotions.

Fragadis has also celebrated the opening of its 13th store, located in Binaced, Huesca, close to the City Hall. The new 496m² SPAR store is energy efficient and provides all the amenities of a local supermarket, supplying a wide range of top brands, high quality SPAR products, local and fresh foods, as well as freshly baked breads and pastries. Convenience and customer service are high on the agenda and the 10 employees know the local tastes and needs well. To celebrate the new store, shoppers were treated to tastings and product samples on opening day.

Roges Supermercats

Roges Supermercats has opened a new 200m² SPAR store in Manresa, the capital of the Bages region in the province of Barcelona. The newly opened store stands out with its fresh produce and bakery sections. It is the sixth SPAR to open in the district and the 23rd in the province of Barcelona. The opening hours are Monday – Saturday from 8:30 to 14:00 and 17:00 to 21:00.

SPAR Gran Canaria

SPAR Gran Canaria ended 2018 with the opening of a SPAR Express store and has started 2019 with the launch of a large 2,000m² SPAR Supermarket. Both stores are located in the island’s capital, Las Palmas, where convenience and fresh produce are key. SPAR Gran Canaria already has 182 stores spread across the island’s 21 municipalities.

The Las Canteras SPAR Express store is 180m² and focuses on the grab-and-go concept, supplying freshly prepared meals with healthy ingredients that are ready to eat, along with a wide range of products of high quality to satisfy all tastes and needs of both local and foreign customers. Popular local chef, Joaquín Espejo, was a culinary advisor, suggesting the types of fresh products to offer and helping to train food-service staff. Customers can choose from smoothies and juices, salads, pizzas and a wide assortment of sandwiches prepared with Iberian ham and freshly baked bread. There is also a large selection of terrines, sushi, freshly cut fruit, artisan ice cream and seasonal desserts.

A large SPAR Supermarket located in the new shopping centre, Puerto Rico Market, is housed in a gourmet space and includes the instore SPAR Natural concept. Open daily from 8:00 to 22:00, the supermarket has created 85 new jobs, with qualified and specialised staff serving both local and foreign customers.

The innovative store design makes use of open and accessible spaces with large windows providing lots of natural light. A variety of products from local suppliers are stocked, including a large selection of fresh foods grown by local farmers. In addition to the fresh local products, there is also an instore cafetaria, with a terrace where customers can enjoy the menu options.

The SPAR Natural department is comprised of more than 6,000 ecological and natural products, covering food and hygiene products as well as health and beauty items.
