SPAR Slovenia receives Socially Responsible Employer certificate for health and safety at work

November 14, 2022 IN THE CATEGORY: Awards and prizes, Health, Responsible retailing

SPAR Slovenia is the first local retailer to achieve certification as a Socially Responsible Employer, having been presented with the certificate in September. The certificate was awarded by the Ekvilib Institute, an independent non-profit organisation, working in the fields of social responsibility, human rights and development cooperation, and recognises improvement in socially responsible management towards employees.

The retailer was already proud to hold a full certificate recognising it as a Family Friendly Company. With this Socially Responsible Employer accolade, SPAR Slovenia continues to show its concern for job satisfaction, safety, and the future of its employees. This certification focuses on raising awareness among employers, employees, and the general public about the importance of health in the workplace.

Mateja Horvat Zakrajšek, a member of SPAR Slovenia’s HR department, accepted the certificate during an award ceremony. Speaking about the award, she said:  “At SPAR, we act responsibly towards all of our stakeholders – customers, suppliers, colleagues, the wider community, and the environment. Colleague satisfaction is extremely important to us, which is why we are proud to have become a certified socially responsible employer. During the process of obtaining certification, we developed a detailed plan for the implementation of measures to elevate our socially responsible conduct concerning employees.”

The Socially Responsible Employer certificate is based on the guidelines of the international standard for social responsibility ISO 26000. The standard’s objective is to improve socially responsible behaviour in organisations and companies. ISO 26000 supports employers to improve safety and health in the workplace, integration of work-life balance, intergenerational cooperation and other topics including ethical management and non-discrimination in the workplace.
