Between March and December 2022, SPAR customers in Hungary donated the cash refund from 200,000 aluminium cans to support holiday camps for socially disadvantaged children. The initiative to donate the refund to a charity was launched in March by the Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta, SPAR Hungary’s longstanding charity partner. The initiative raised HUF 1 million (€2,505) in funds and collected over 3 tonnes of recyclable aluminium.
Thanks to the joint fundraising campaign of the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service and SPAR Hungary organised in the run-up to Christmas, 143 tonnes of food products could be made into gift packages to support people in need during the festive season. SPAR Hungary customers supported nearly 20,000 families in this year’s Give Joy! fundraising campaign.
Nine SPAR and EUROSPAR stores throughout Holywood, Bangor, Ballyholme and Newtownards have raised money in aid of the local food bank, Storehouse North Down. Donations go to Gift A Gift Card Appeal, where for every £10 raised, a £10 One4All gift card will be donated to the organisation. The stores raised a total of £4,028.81, resulting in 402 £10 One4All gift cards being donated to the food bank. The remainder of the money raised was spent on additional essential items. The benefited families can buy what they need, when they need it, helping them through difficult times.
SPAR Scotland has celebrated another successful year of supporting charities and community initiatives. The national SPAR Partner donated £142,753 (€161,226) in 2022. Over £69,000 went to Marie Curie, the Kiltwalk challenge raised £24,038, while the community cashback campaign during COP26 saw £26,000 go to 26 worthy causes. Moreover, £7,474.03 went to the Red Cross, and £15,518.11 was used for various donations to local charities and communities. This year, SPAR Scotland operator CJ Lang will continue to support SPAR UK’s national charity partner, Marie Curie, and plans to roll out foodbank bins to selected stores as part of the charitable work.
Until the end of the year, shoppers could donate non-perishable food items to families in need in all SPAR Slovenia’s stores during the 11th edition of the traditional festive campaign ‘Let’s Help Together’, and SPAR has also made a donation of €10,000 to Ana’s Star.
Moreover, SPAR Slovenia and Eta Kamnik, a producer of high-quality Natureta-branded food products, donated products to the socially vulnerable. As part of the charity campaign, ‘2,000 meals for the homeless’, in which SPAR Slovenia and Eta Kamnik have teamed up, over 1,300 meals have been delivered to homeless shelters, safe houses and day centres since November. Thanks to the ongoing campaign, which has been running for several months, over 300 care recipients and people in need from 20 institutions in various municipalities across Slovenia have received Natureta-branded meals.
