The modern SPAR Supermarket Gamle Fredrikstad spans over 1,000m², with more than 600m² of dedicated retail space. The supermarket is part of the relocation project of the former SPAR Supermarket Solgaard, previously owned by Henning and Bodil Solgaard. The project began in 2011, and due to the location of the new supermarket in the historic area of Frederikstad old town, had to be approved by the Ministry of Local Government and Modernisation.
The supermarket fits into the environment of the old town and blends into the surrounding area. Customers can make use of an extensive offering, including fresh produce such as fruit and vegetables, fresh meat, ready meals, and grocery essentials, making it a one-stop-shop for customers. With over 20 team members to help customers, as well as technologies such as self-checkouts, customers can enjoy a pleasant shopping experience.
The reaction to the supermarket opening has been very positive from both new and returning customers, with over 6,000 visitors in the first three days of business. After the opening, Henning and Bodil plan to retire, with a new store manager, Kristian Lindstrøm, at the helm. At the opening, Ole Fjeldheim, SPAR Norway Director, said: “Even though the project took 12 years, Henning and Bodil never gave up. We could not have done this without them. They have been great SPAR managers for several decades.
