Download imageThe first store to open on 19 October was the SPAR Hypermarket in Opebi, while the second, SPAR Hypermarket in Surulere, was opened on 26 October with a great opening ceremony. Both SPAR Hypermarkets with retail sales area between 1,000m2 and 2,500m2 are located in regions of the state of Lagos. Surulere has a large population of 640,000 people and 160,000 households as well as a thriving business sector. SPAR Opebi is in the Ikeja area with a population of 1.2 million and 300,000 households; both areas have shopping malls which benefit from the addition of formal hypermarkets to the retail offer.
The new stores provide valued shoppers with full hypermarket offerings of food, grocery, fruit & veg, butchery, bakery, wine & spirits, Food-to-Go, electronics, as well as a large range of household items.
At the launch of SPAR Surulere, SPAR Nigeria Marketing Manager, Emmanuel Isangediok said: “We are excited to increase our footprint in Lagos and Nigeria as a whole. We are reiterating our commitment to developing the local retail market and improving the economy through the provision of jobs.”
Customers in Nigeria strongly associate the SPAR Brand with quality and the two new hypermarkets will help SPAR Nigeria secure its position at the forefront of the grocery retail sector, offering a good mix of locally and globally-sourced products.
With these two latest openings, SPAR Nigeria now operates hypermarkets in 14 locations in the country with over 45,000m2 of retail space. Specifically, there are eight stores in Lagos, two each in Abuja and Port Harcourt and one each in Enugu and Calabar.
