Over the past few years, SPAR Netherlands has invested heavily in the improvement of the fresh and baked-goods departments in its stores. To celebrate the developments, SPAR stores throughout the country took part in the SPAR Games, competing for the title ‘Best SPAR store’ in their region and ‘Best City Store’.
The stores were assessed on their customer service, marketing campaigns, instore communications, human resource operations, food safety levels and hygiene. A special feature of the SPAR Games was the sharing of Best Practice with retailers after every round. ‘Discover and implement new learnings’ was the theme of the SPAR Games, encouraging retailers and their teams to perform at their very best.
The participating stores were awarded in various categories: Best fruit and veg department, best bakery, best customer service and best SPAR Supermarket. The winning stores are delighted with the recognition of their achievements:

About SPAR Netherlands
SPAR was founded in the Netherlands in 1932 by Dutch wholesaler, Adriaan van Well and 16 independent retailers. It was established as a voluntary chain of grocers under the name “DESPAR”. By the end of the 1950s, SPAR was the largest food organisation in the Netherlands.
Today, SPAR Netherlands is investing in the modernisation of its SPAR neighbourhood stores, the resurgence of new urban city stores and the introduction of a strong forecourt store network. In recent years, SPAR Netherlands has seen a steep increase in online shopping with over 130 online stores now in operation across the country.
