At the recent World Skate World Championships held in Roccaraso, Italy, the Namibian national men’s inline hockey team captured global attention with an impressive fourth-place finish. A testament to the team’s resilience and skill.
Entering the tournament ranked 21st, the Namibian team defied expectations by advancing to the semi-finals, defeating several higher-ranked teams along the way. Their outstanding performance has positioned Namibia as a rising force in the sport, earning the admiration of fans and competitors alike.
Sarah Schmidt, Head Coach of the Namibian men’s team, emphasised the importance of teamwork in their success: “After a tough start, we focused on playing as a family, creating opportunities for each other on the field. This mindset, along with the invaluable experience of our coaching staff, was key to our success.”
The NIIHA’s junior teams also made a strong showing in Italy, with the junior men’s team finishing seventh and the junior women’s team securing a bronze medal.
