The partnership already covers 16 DESPAR, EUROSPAR, and INTERSPAR stores in 12 cities. This number is set to increase to 21 stores in 14 cities by the end of the year. The service is now available to SPAR customers in Apulia, Abruzzo, and Calabria, three large regions that are Maiora’s stronghold with a longstanding SPAR retail footprint. Specifically, the agreement between the two companies will ensure a fast delivery service seven days a week in less than 40 minutes from the time the order is placed online, during store opening hours.
The service enhances Maiora’s e-commerce service ‘DESPAR A Casa’, which plays a strategic role among Maiora’s sales channels. SPAR seeks to expand its omnichannel solutions to meet evolving shopping patterns. Today’s customers increasingly opt for delivery not just of restaurant meals but also of grocery shopping.
Alessandro Pugliese, CRM and E-commerce Manager of Maiora DESPAR Centro Sud, stated: “Our agreement with Glovo will allow Maiora to expand its digital touchpoints and enhance daily shopping experiences for current and prospective customers. This partnership fits perfectly within our company’s customer-centric strategy. We want to provide a shopping experience that can meet every expectation, by offering quality products, through an array of valuable services.”
A strong delivery partner
Agustina Clair, Head of Q-Commerce at Glovo Italia, said: “Glovo is a multi-category delivery platform, allowing consumers to receive any product at home. We are a major player in meal deliveries and grocery shopping, which has recorded a real boom, + 400% in 2020 and + 200% in the first six months of 2021. This is a trend that will continue strongly even post-pandemic, as it responds to current consumer habits.”

About SPAR Italy
SPAR Italy, known locally as DESPAR Italia, was first granted the SPAR Brand’s licence in 1959. The first store opened in 1960. With it, SPAR became the first partnership of retailers and wholesalers to operate in the country. In addition, SPAR Italy licenses regional partners, all of whom work together to grow the brand across the country.
The DESPAR Partners operate stores under three formats: DESPAR Neighbourhood Supermarkets, EUROSPAR Supermarkets, and INTERSPAR Hypermarkets. Many of the larger format stores are company-owned, reflecting the scale of investment required. While the company achieves most of its turnover through these larger format stores, the independently owned neighbourhood supermarkets remain vital.
