Donations to Feed the Heroes are used to sustain those on the frontline, ensuring they get nutritious meals as they work long shifts and often have little time or facilities to prepare food. Benefiting from the meals are hospital workers, testers, contact tracers, laboratories, and emergency response teams. Each meal reportedly costs an average of €7 to prepare and deliver.
Alongside a number of suppliers across logistics, packaging, and transport, SPAR has worked with Feed the Heroes to donate SPAR branded products to the care boxes that were packaged and sent to pharmacists and GP surgeries nationwide to thank them for the tireless work they have been doing at the heart of communities across the country.
The campaign was set up by Cian O’Flaherty and Tad McAllister to raise some funds to provide some meals to workers. By 20 May, Feed the Heroes has raised over €1,219,000 and over 159,660 meals have been delivered to 127 sites nationwide.
