On Saturday, the focus is on 10km and shorter distances for less experienced runners and families, while participants on Sunday will run the whole marathon, 30 km or a marathon in a team of two or four.
The runners of the SPAR Budapest Marathon, starting on Pázmány Péter sétány at 9 am on Sunday morning, will run the 42.195km distance on one of Europe’s most beautiful and spectacular marathon routes. The distance can be completed by one or two runners or in a group of four. The new feature of this year’s event, the SPAR 14km run, starts here as well. This crowd of runners will be joined by the participants of the Regnum 30km race. Along the route, 36 musicians and bands will support the runners and entertain the crowd.
The Budapest Sports Office (BSI), one of the organisers, will provide runners with more than 80,000 litres of water, 32,000 litres of Gatorade, 1,000 litres of Pepsi, 280kg of glucose tablets, and 13,000 bananas. About 1,200 organisers are working together to ensure the event runs smoothly and safe during the two days.
“Our company has been the title and main sponsor of the SPAR Budapest Marathon Festival since 2008. The event’s main goal is to make as many people as possible fall in love with running and to draw attention to the importance of a health-conscious, active lifestyle”, said Márk Maczelka, Head of Communications at SPAR Hungary.
“SPAR offers community members and team members free entry, thus motivating them to participate and exercise regularly. We will also promote a health-conscious lifestyle – to which we have committed ourselves not only with our products but also with our social responsibility activities – at the event”, he added.
The two-day running event will feature various charity activities. The donations during these two days are expected to reach up to HUF 10 million (€23,920) thanks to nine charity partner organisations and almost 800 fundraisers and donors.
Each year, participants receive a unique, race-branded T-shirt, and finishers are given a medal.
More details about the event can be found on the official event page.
