SPAR Hungary’s INTERSPAR Tata has been named ‘Store of the Year’ in the hypermarket category by Store Insider magazine. INTERSPAR Tata, SPAR’s 34th hypermarket in the country, was opened last year and is equipped with environmentally friendly technologies inside and out. SPAR Hungary was also crowned ‘Green Retailer of the Year’. The titles were awarded to SPAR Hungary based on excellent customer service, product range, sustainability, quality of services, store design, and special solutions and services.

Green retailer to protect the environment

Environmentally conscious corporate governance is the cornerstone of SPAR’s business philosophy. SPAR Hungary focuses on implementing sustainable and eco-friendly solutions in each part of the business throughout its store network, logistics centres, food processing plants, and in the central office.

INTERSPAR Hypermarket Tata

INTERSPAR Tata was opened in June 2019. An investment of €13 million went into the construction of the hypermarket, which provides jobs for 78 team members. The 5,200m2 hypermarket has a unique horizontal supporting structure with beams and ceiling panels made entirely from wood.

The use of environmentally friendly materials is complemented with environmental friendly technologies. SPAR Hungary also installed ozone-friendly cooling systems and refrigerator doors and energy-efficient LED-lighting. For more about this store, read our Contact International Best in Class feature.

About SPAR Hungary

The first SPAR Supermarket opened in Hungary in 1992, following the acquisition by ASPIAG (Austria SPAR International AG) of a majority stake in General Kereskedelmi Rt. Since its launch, SPAR Hungary has been actively involved in the development of the retail industry in the country.

The move to license independent retailers to operate the SPAR Brand has proven successful for Hungary, with new stores meeting the needs of a larger number of shoppers. The retailers benefit from becoming part of the SPAR organisation with access to own brand products, operating systems and the brand, whilst consumers enjoy the increased number of store locations.
