SPAR Hungary invested over €8.84 million in the construction of its latest SPAR Supermarket in Szentendre, at the town’s railway terminal. The modern and energy-conscious 4,389m² supermarket, with a retail sales area of 2,145m², opened after a one-year process. It includes a 54-space parking garage and a 47-space open-air parking lot in the town’s busy transport hub, and employs 42 team members.
The building’s main facade, with a wooden roof, has a modern and unique look. Instore, the supermarket offers quality products and an extensive range of convenience items, including a wide selection of fresh food, mostly from domestic suppliers, such as a fruit and vegetables department, a bakery, a large delicatessen and meat counter, plus an expanded beverage section.
The supermarket also offers a SPAR Enjoy self-service refrigerator, a chilled goods counter, and a SPAR to Go grill counter. There are staffed cash registers as well as six self-checkouts offering different payment solutions. A recycling machine located near the entrance facilitates quick bottle redemption.
Aligned with SPAR Hungary’s sustainability strategy, the new supermarket in Szentendre includes innovative, eco-friendly solutions. The building uses energy-saving underfloor heating, with heat provided by recycling waste heat from the refrigeration. LED lights and door-mounted refrigerators help reduce electricity consumption.
