Download imageSPAR Hungary has introduced digital solutions to reduce the paper-based administration required for the operation of its stores. One saving involves the elimination of paper-based cleaning logs and refrigeration control sheets. These measures will lead to a paper reduction of 14 tonnes in 2023.
SPAR Hungary’s online platform recently replaced printed delivery notes with digital ones, further cutting over 3 tonnes of paper annually.
Through the introduction of reusable tarpaulins to cover shipments of products from the warehouse to stores via roll cages, SPAR Hungary will reduce the use of plastic film by over 59 tons per year. The stores collect the tarpaulins and return them to the warehouse to be used for the next delivery. The country organisation launched these tarpaulins at the end of December 2022.
SPAR Hungary has extended the number of waste cooking oil collection points at SPAR stores nationwide to 80. The SPAR country organisation first launched this household oils and grease recycling scheme in 2021. SPAR Hungary’s partner Biotrans Kft. arranges the transport, sedimentation, and heating of the oil and fats, which are then turned into fuel at a biodiesel plant.
Interactive maps help customers find the nearest SPAR store which has collection containers. The updated list of locations is available on SPAR Hungary’s sustainability website.
“Environmental awareness is an important principle for SPAR. With this aim, we strive to implement new solutions in almost all areas of our daily operations,” said Márk Maczelka, Head of Communications at SPAR Hungary.
