SPAR Hungary extends local sourcing programme to nearly 140 suppliers

March 11, 2026 IN THE CATEGORY: Responsible retailing, Sourcing

SPAR Hungary's local sourcing programme, Regional Treasures, continued to grow in 2025, with 569 products from 139 Hungarian small producers and businesses available in SPAR stores across the country. Suppliers in the programme provide jobs for around 800 people, and product turnover has increased by almost 60% in a year.

Continuous expansion

The Regional Treasures programme is organised around seven regional centres. By the end of 2025, most suppliers were based in the Budapest region. Over that year, the number of suppliers grew from 128 to 139, and the number of products increased from 532 to 569. The range now covers 23 product categories, with gluten-free products added as a new category last year.

Strong customer demand

Demand for local products is continuously growing. SPAR Hungary not only provides a sales channel for its suppliers but also offers comprehensive development support. The popular SPAR Supplier Academy and Business Bootcamp help companies develop skills in business, marketing, and branding. In 2025, digital support was enhanced with an AI-based content creation tool, making social media communication easier for partners.

Hungarian success in the international market

A key milestone for the Regional Treasures programme is that a product from a Hungarian supplier has entered the export market. The highly successful “Dubai chocolate” ice cream, produced by Bocco Doro and already part of SPAR Hungary’s own brand range, is now available in Croatia and Slovenia. This demonstrates that the programme not only provides domestic sales opportunities but also opens up access to international markets for small Hungarian businesses.

Further expansion expected in 2026

SPAR Hungary will continue developing the Regional Treasures programme in 2026, aiming to make quality Hungarian products available in as many stores as possible. The company is gradually introducing the programme in nearly 200 company-owned SPAR supermarkets and plans to expand into its franchise stores. SPAR Hungary also welcomes new suppliers to join the initiative.

The retailer’s goal is to bring more quality Hungarian products to consumers, and the Regional Treasures programme offers genuine growth opportunities for small businesses ready to take their business to the next level.
