In the first half of 2024, SPAR Hungary welcomed 19 new independently owned stores, bringing the total independent retailer run stores to 290. Collaboration with petrol forecourt operators increases opportunities for shoppers with SPAR brand stores. The independently run stores provide employment for over 3,500 SPAR colleagues nationwide.

SPAR Hungary launched its independent retailer programme twelve years ago, with the first independently owned store opened in Mór.

The new stores are based in many different towns and cities around the country. Customers of independently owned stores can find high-quality SPAR products, including fresh meat, meat products and convenience products from the SPAR enjoy range. Additionally, regional specialities are available.

“The annual turnover of our independently owned stores last year exceeded €342.1 million (HUF 134 billion), which shows the power of local retailers. Licensed SPAR retailers benefit from many advantages, including access to over 16,000 products, logistics and training services, IT, professional assistance and comprehensive marketing support. The newly joined stores are undergoing major renovations to enhance efficiency and environmental sustainability”, said Márk Maczelka, Head of Communications at SPAR Hungary.

In addition to 290 stores operated by independent retailers, SPAR Hungary currently has 368 corporate stores nationwide.
