SPAR Hungary donated over 223 tonnes of food during its 28th Joy to Give! Christmas fundraiser campaign. This donation, equivalent to 26,000 food packages, was made to help people in need. SPAR customers contributed by purchasing donation cards worth over €13,376, and SPAR Hungary matched this with an additional €12,160.

The Joy to Give! campaign, organised by the Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta in partnership with SPAR Hungary for the 28th time, took place in selected SPAR Hungary stores. The campaign began on 1 December with the sale of Joy to Give! donation cards. From 12–17 December, volunteers from the Maltese Charity Service collected non-perishable food from customers at 115 SPAR and 36 INTERSPAR stores.

The theme of the campaign was ‘Christmas reaches everyone this year!’ Even small donations, like a packet of pasta or a kilogram of sugar, can make a big difference. Thanks to these efforts, SPAR Hungary helped brighten Christmas for more than 26,000 people from disadvantaged backgrounds in 2024.

“The cooperation between SPAR Hungary and the Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta will continue in 2025. School supplies will be collected before the start of the school year, and food donations before Christmas. Additionally, SPAR Hungary will continue to support people in need with food donations throughout the year”, said Márk Maczelka, SPAR Hungary’s Head of Communications.
