With the support of the Telde City Council, the agreement was recently signed with the participation of seven local farmers who will offer their oranges in 19 local SPAR Supermarkets until January 31, 2021.
With its more than 30 years of experience in fruit and vegetables on their island, SPAR Gran Canaria is committed to the protection of agricultural activity in the Canarian countryside, while guaranteeing its customers local and fresh quality products.
If the amount of harvested oranges exceeds the forecasts, SPAR Gran Canaria will also sell Telde oranges in other municipalities. This will guarantee farmers the purchase of all their orange production, and always under stable and fair economic conditions.
The President of SPAR Gran Canaria, Ángel Medina, highlighted the importance of supporting the primary sector of the Canary Islands by betting on the sale of local produce.
The Mayor of Telde, Héctor Suárez, valued the efforts that farmers are making to adapt to the new circumstances and continue to offer their products in complete safety. He emphasized that “the situation we are currently experiencing highlights the importance of consuming local products. In the citrus field, Telde is at the forefront due to its more than consolidated and proven quality.”
The Councilor for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Auri Saavedra, highlighted that this agreement not only supports people who are dedicated to the primary sector and citrus farming but also provides citizens with the possibility of acquiring quality and seasonal products at a fair price.
