SPAR Gran Canaria has officially opened a new logistics centre dedicated exclusively to refrigerated and frozen products.

The new logistics centre is located in El Goro industrial estate, close to the SPAR Gran Canaria head office. With a total area of 4,455m2 located across two floors, the logistics centre has a ground floor of 3,770m2 containing four large cold rooms, with temperatures ranging from 0-4 degrees in the refrigerated area, to between -18 and -25 degrees for frozen products. The ground floor also has facilities such as the reception area and offices. On the upper floor, there are offices, meeting rooms, changing rooms, a dining room, plus a space for quality control as well as storage for transport roll-carts.

There are six dedicated loading docks ensuring adequate space for loading and unloading goods into the warehouse. Goods will be transported through isothermal mobile containers, which includes location and temperature monitoring from departure at the logistics centre to arrival at one of the SPAR Supermarkets on the island. A total of 27 new jobs were created at the logistics centre, with colleagues working in the refrigerated and frozen areas receiving extensive training.

Expanding supply chain

With the opening of this new logistics centre, SPAR Gran Canaria’s storage space spans across 29,600m2 across three logistics centres on the island. The main logistics centre in El Goro, dedicated to dry goods, has a total area of 21,000m2, with the dedicated fruit and vegetable warehouse in Mercalaspalmas covering 5,000m2. Through these locations, SPAR Gran Canaria can continue to meet the demands of 198 SPAR Supermarkets across the island and facilitate future growth of the SPAR brand in Gran Canaria.
