SPAR Gran Canaria highlights its continued commitment to social responsibility by supporting local agriculture and promoting community wellbeing and healthy lifestyles.

Sponsors of Me Gusta Fair

For the 9th consecutive year, SPAR Gran Canaria sponsored the Gran Canaria Me Gusta Fair, one of the largest fairs dedicated to local produce. SPAR Gran Canaria continues to support local agriculture by offering over 6,000kg of high-quality local produce at affordable prices. The SPAR Gran Canaria stand featured Gran Canaria potatoes, La Aldea tomatoes, and Telde oranges. A variety of local fruits and vegetables were available to customers at the stand.

The fair also included SPAR’s new food truck ‘La SPARETA’, which offered dishes developed with locally-sourced products. SPAR Gran Canaria hosted exhibitions and children’s workshops promoting healthy and fresh eating.

Celebrating 38 years, SPAR Gran Canaria is committed to sustainability and local produce, working closely with over 200 farmers and supporting the primary sector through long-term agreements.

SPAR Youth Talent Scholarship

As part of their mission to support the local community and promote healthy living, SPAR Gran Canaria awarded its fifth Youth Talent Scholarship to 11-year-old Daniela Moreno Almeida, a European and World Champion in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

The scholarship will cover her travel and participation expenses for the World Jiu-Jitsu Championships in Abu Dhabi and the IBJJF European Championship in Dublin this year. Daniela has excelled academically and athletically, winning 21 gold medals in various competitions.

This initiative is part of SPAR Gran Canaria’s CSR programme, which supports young local talents in cultural and sports disciplines. This is especially important for talent requiring aid for further studies.

About SPAR Spain

SPAR Spain was founded in 1959 when a group of wholesalers who wished to join an international organisation came together. As a result, the brand became the first voluntary trading chain to be established in Spain. The head office is in Barcelona. It provides buying, marketing, communications, and brand support to the 13 regional partners. Together, the SPAR operators actively continue the expansion of the brand across the country.
