SPAR Gran Canaria collaborates with the association and donates food for events which highlight the importance of maintaining a healthy diet for sickness prevention. One element is that important dates are commemorated with a variety of activities. The association also has an annual summer protection campaign to raise awareness on prevention from skin cancer.
SPAR Gran Canaria store wallet cards will be supplied to those in vulnerable situations to facilitate access to healthy food. Those recipients will be able to use these cards in any of the 195 SPAR branded stores on the island. SPAR Gran Canaria continues to also donate sugar-free sweets towards the programme. Almost 100 kilogrammes of sweets will be distributed by volunteers to cancer patients and their families.
Through this collaboration with the Spanish Association Against Cancer, SPAR Gran Canaria not only supports local communities but also contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) developed by the United Nations. Contributing to health and wellbeing, promoting and enhancing scientific research in the fight against cancer, and building partnerships for strategic alliances are all important elements of the SDG framework.

SPAR Spain was founded in 1959 when a group of wholesalers who wished to join an international organisation came together. As a result, the brand became the first voluntary trading chain to be established in Spain, having been granted a license by SPAR International. Together, 13 regional SPAR wholesalers actively continue the expansion of the brand across the country.
