As patrons of the Foresta Foundation, SPAR Gran Canaria contributes to the reforestation and conservation of the island’s forests. During 2024, the retail organisation planted 200 trees in collaboration with the foundation, reducing approximately two tonnes of CO2 annually over the next 30 years.
SPAR Gran Canaria also delivers food donations and has participated in the recent Great Food Drive initiative, organised by the Las Palmas Food Bank. During the campaign, more than 25,100 kilos of basic food items were collected for families in need with the help of 367 volunteers from SPAR Gran Canaria. Adding this Great Food Drive to other charitable campaigns carried out throughout the year, SPAR Gran Canaria has donated more than 48 tonnes of products to the Las Palmas Food Bank in 2025.
SPAR Gran Canaria’s support for local products is also reflected in its collaborative agreements with farmers and producers on the island. Recent agreements for purchasing tomatoes from the La Aldea area for the fifth consecutive year, and apples from the Valleseco area for the fourth year, are just highlights of extensive local grower support.
The most recently signed agreement renewed the relationship between SPAR Gran Canaria and local citrus growers for the thirteenth consecutive year. With the support of the Telde City Council and the Gran Canaria Island Council, the agreement ensures that SPAR Gran Canaria will purchase 100% of local harvests from local citrus growers, guaranteeing stability and a fair price for their products. For this season, SPAR Gran Canaria plans to market 250,000 kilos of oranges from Telde, grown on farms within the municipality.
SPAR Gran Canaria also promotes a people-centred corporate culture through the creation of stable employment and professional development opportunities. Over 3,000 hours and more than 400 training initiatives annually are carried out by SPAR Gran Canaria, along with the newly established SPAR Gran Canaria Scholarship Programme. The programme is aimed at employees with children under 23 years of age enrolled in public and subsidised schools, further reinforcing educational and didactic support for families.

SPAR Spain was founded in 1959 when a group of wholesalers who wished to join an international organisation came together. As a result, the brand became the first voluntary trading chain to be established in Spain, having been granted a license by SPAR International. Together, regional SPAR wholesalers continue to actively expand the brand across the country.
