A new SPAR Express store opened in the province of León, in the small town of Sésamo having approximately 300 inhabitants. Located in the heart of the Bierzo region, this new store, managed by independent retailer Laura, is the only store in the village. It offers local customers a large variety of fresh products, including fruit & vegetables, a bakery, exclusive SPAR Own Brand products, and other essentials for everyday life. The store’s opening hours have been tailored to meet the needs of the local community.
The expansion of sub-licensed SPAR Express stores included a recent store opening in the province of A Coruña. The new store has a wide assortment of products, including exclusive SPAR Own Brand ranges, a bakery section, a fresh fruit & vegetable section, and a variety of specially selected international products. The store is run by Silvia Yudid and her team, serving residents.
These stores reflect Grupo Cuevas’ commitment to providing essential services to rural areas and creating employment opportunities for local people. Thanks to the work and constant involvement of SPAR Spain with sub-licensees, strong independent retailers like Laura and Silvia have opportunities to grow.
Another location of the new SPAR Express store is in Villafranca del Bierzo. This 130m² convenience store serves the residents of the area, reinforcing Grupo Cuevas’ commitment to local commerce, personalised attention and the revitalisation of the rural environment.
In this new store, shoppers enjoy access to fresh fruits & vegetables, a bakery, and a delicatessen section. The store is a family-run business with mother Ana and her son Brandon managing the store, serving the local community and providing opportunities for local producers.
With new store openings, the SPAR network is expanding in Spain, emphasising a strong commitment to the residents of local and rural areas.

SPAR Spain was founded in 1959 when a group of wholesalers who wished to join an international organisation came together and sought a suitable solution. The brand became the first voluntary trading chain to be established in Spain when SPAR Spain was granted a license to trade under the brand by SPAR International. Together, 13 regional SPAR wholesalers actively continue to build the brand’s presence across the mainland and the islands.
