SPAR International is proud to continue its long-standing partnership with European Athletics as title sponsor of the SPAR European Cross Country Championships. This year, the event will take place on Sunday, 14 December in the stunning Mediterranean resort of Lagoa, Portugal.

A sustainable Championship experience

This marks the fourth time Portugal has hosted the championships, following previous editions in Oeiras (1997), Albufeira (2010), and Lisbon (2019). The event promises an exciting day of competition, building on last year’s memorable performances, including Jakob Ingebrigtsen’s third senior men’s title and Nadia Battocletti’s historic victory in the senior women’s race.

The Lagoa 2025 Championships have been awarded Eco-Event certification by Algar, an organisation operating in the Algarve in the collection, treatment, and recycling of waste, recognising the Local Organising Committee’s commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. This certification reflects a clear commitment to preserving nature and delivering an exceptional experience for both athletes and spectators.

Local support and community engagement

Adding to the local engagement, SPAR Portugal will actively support the event by providing 250 volunteer food packs in reusable, event-branded bags. Each pack includes drinks, fruits, and snacks, reinforcing SPAR’s dedication to sustainability and community involvement.

Two iconic figures in Portuguese athletics, Jessica Augusto and Paulo Guerra, will serve as event ambassadors, inspiring athletes and fans with their remarkable careers and passion for the sport.

SPAR International is delighted to celebrate sport, sustainability, and community spirit at Lagoa 2025. We invite everyone to join us in supporting Europe’s best cross-country runners and experiencing an unforgettable day in the Algarve.

About SPAR Portugal

The SPAR stores in Portugal are predominantly convenience-focused neighbourhood stores, operated by sub-licensed independent retailers which complement company-owned stores.
