SPAR Denmark supports local waste collection tours

June 27, 2024 IN THE CATEGORY: Community, Environment, Responsible retailing

For the sixth year in a row, SPAR Denmark supports the national environmental organisation Ren Natur (Clean Nature). Founded in 2018, Ren Natur organises waste collection tours across Denmark, encouraging local associations to volunteer. This year, over 100 SPAR branded stores will serve as gathering points for local associations. SPAR Denmark will also donate DKK2,500 (approximately €335) to each participating association's club funds.

Retailer upholds local values

The first waste collection tour of the year started on 3 May, with the final collection scheduled at the end of October 2024. The goal for this year is to collect 15 tonnes of waste. More than 800 local associations, covering sports, culture, and nature segments, have signed up for this year’s waste collection, encompassing most municipalities in Denmark.

Ren Natur is a project we have supported for the past six years, fitting well with our DNA in the SPAR retail network. It is about being part of local communities and taking responsibility. It is fantastic to see so many independent retailers supporting the initiative. Retailers trading under SPAR brand are often a meeting point in their local communities, and this means that they have a responsibility to make a difference in the community. In collaboration with Ren Natur (Clean Nature), we and our retailers can help make the local environment cleaner. In local communities, it is not just waste collection, it is a social event where you get to know each other, enjoy nature, and have fun with your neighbours”, said SPAR Denmark’s CEO Esben Keller on the initiative.
