SPAR Denmark has announced a renewed focus on strengthening its role as a truly local supermarket, underlining the commitment to Danish products, community engagement, and sustainable retailing. Dagrofa, which operates SPAR in Denmark, has recently launched its new sustainability programme ‘Grobund for mere’ (Breeding ground for more).

SPAR Denmark is rooted in local communities

At the heart of SPAR Denmark’s strategy is a clear belief: a strong local supermarket contributes to vibrant communities. Independent SPAR retailers are closely connected to customers and local life, and this community role is being further strengthened through targeted sustainability initiatives and the support of local associations.

More Danish products on the shelves

SPAR Denmark is intensifying efforts to increase the share of Danish products instore. The retailer makes it easier for customers to choose local ingredients and support Danish producers, thereby strengthening the country’s agricultural and food‑production ecosystem.

Locally adapted product ranges

SPAR Denmark is also investing in tailored product ranges that match local needs. These include a wide selection of fresh produce and convenient meal solutions, all selected with a strong focus on reducing food waste while making everyday shopping easier for customers.

Local initiatives as a path to sustainability

For SPAR Denmark, sustainability starts at the local level. By supporting community life, expanding local sourcing, and reducing food waste, SPAR Denmark creates value that goes far beyond just the grocery business—for both customers and communities.

Recently, Dagrofa, which operates SPAR in Denmark, officially launched its sustainability programme ‘Grobund for mere’ (Breeding ground for more). This strategy emphasises the importance of taking responsibility for sustainable choices as a food retailer. It focuses on working with Danish producers to ensure quality products both in stores and on customers’ plates, as well as in how the business operates.

“We believe that the joy of food and responsibility go hand in hand. That’s why we challenge habits – our own and those of the industry. And we keep asking ourselves if we can do a little more,” said Tenna Skov Thorsted, Dagrofa’s Head of Sustainability.
