SPAR Teglholmen, which has a sales area of 700m2, offers valued shoppers an extended assortment of fruit and vegetables, a broad range of both convenience and premium products, as well as locally sourced foods that meet specific lifestyle and dietary needs. The instore offering demonstrates the focus that SPAR Denmark has placed on building the status of the brand in the market with the introduction of new innovations and the expansion of premium brands.
The floor plan has been developed to cater for different shopper needs, with a zone for the sustainable customer containing several SKUs within the SPAR Natural Own Brand shop-in-shop category solution. The range includes zero-waste products and an extended organic, vegetarian, vegan, lactose-free and gluten-free assortment – in line with the latest consumer trends.
Commenting on the opening, Richo Boss, CEO of SPAR Denmark, said: “Throughout the process leading up to the opening, we have worked with SPAR International to draw on some of the success factors of the brand throughout the world – taking and tailoring learnings for the Danish market. The progress in recent years has been very encouraging, but we must continue to grow. Over the next few years, we plan to invest in the modernisation of our store estate and hope to attract more independent retailers to join our ranks.”
In an otherwise flat retail market, the dedicated independent SPAR retailers in Denmark are boosting sales by keeping loyal customers satisfied – harnessing the knowledge and resources available throughout the global SPAR network to make themselves stand out from the competition.
SPAR Denmark currently has 139 supermarkets – primarily neighbourhood stores within city locations. In 2018, SPAR Denmark recorded sales growth of 9.2% with turnover of €531 million.

About SPAR Denmark
SPAR Denmark was founded in 1954 when Danish retail company, Dagrofa, was granted a licence to operate the brand in the market. In 2013, the NorgesGruppen purchase of 49% of the Dagrofa Group was approved. This led to a major restructuring of the retail business, with a focus placed on strengthening the SPAR Brand in Denmark.
SPAR Denmark has more than 130 supermarkets spread across the country, positioning itself as the largest independent retail chain in the market. Its headquarters are located in Ringsted.
