The supermarket, which first opened 19 years ago, has been fully renewed to focus more on product quality and availability, as well as customer service. As part of the revamped supermarket, the layout has been redesigned, including the entrance and exits, as well as the positioning of departments within the supermarket, ensuring a smoother shopper flow. The product assortment includes more green and organic options for health-conscious customers, as well as more SPAR Own Brand product ranges.
In the North of the country, SPAR Shandong reopened four SPAR supermarkets as part of ongoing store developments. In July the SPAR Shandong Supermarket Jining Rencheng Wuyue Plaza reopened to customers. The 2,600m2 supermarket was comprehensively transformed and optimised, including wider aisles, staggered shelves, and improved lighting. The product assortment has been refined to better meet the needs of customers across different categories. Food-to-go is a core part of the supermarket offering, with a variety of ready-made dishes available to customers, as well as a dedicated sitting and dining area.
The SPAR Shandong Supermarket Linyi Vientiane Hui also reopened in July. With a retail sales area of 3,280m2, the spacious supermarket focuses on fresh produce, with a wide range of fresh fruit and vegetables, seafood, meat, and baked goods available instore. The instore design was developed with an optimised supermarket layout and customer flow. A rejuvenated product assortment also fits more with the needs of customers, and the food-to-go departments create an enhanced customer experience.
At the end of August, SPAR Shandong reopened two more supermarkets. The SPAR Shandong Supermarket Tai’an Minmetals: Live Shopping Centre reopened with an upgraded supermarket layout, including shelf design and customer flow. Additionally, the SPAR Shandong Supermarket Yantai Longkou 4 once again welcomed customers after renovations, with an adjusted instore layout and product assortment to better meet the needs of the local community. This improved assortment includes local produce ranging from fruit and vegetables to fresh fish and meats.

The SPAR brand was introduced to China in 2004 with the signing of the licence agreement for the Shandong province. Today, two core partners build the brand in the north and south, extending the communities having access to SPAR stores. The privately-owned retail chains licensed to operate the SPAR brand have a cooperative relationship. As a result, this partnership aligns with the original SPAR mission of working together to reduce costs, maximise sales, and increase profits.
