The tree planting initiative has taken place each year on Arbor Day since 2015, with SPAR Shandong, Hengan Group and Kowloon City Shopping Plaza collaborating. In the last 10 years, more than 50,000 people have taken part in the initiative, with 64,000 trees planted.
Around 200 families with their children participated in this year’s event, when more than 800 black pine trees were planted. With help from local staff, parents and children could cultivate the soil and plant the trees. Families could also bring wish cards to attach to the trees.
After the tree planting, participants returned to the Kowloon City Shopping Plaza to join in the “Heart-to-Heart – Born to the Wild” carnival. The event included cultural performances and activities, stamp collections, and more. Environmentally conscious initiatives such as bottle recycling exchanges were integrated into the event to further heighten environmental protection amongst the public.

SPAR was introduced to China in 2004 with the signing of the license agreement for Shandong province, followed by the addition of more partners. The privately-owned retail chains licensed to operate SPAR have a cooperative relationship. As a result, this partnership aligns with the original SPAR mission of working together to reduce costs, maximise sales, and increase profits.
