SPAR Botswana supporting local communities

April 7, 2025 IN THE CATEGORY: Community, People, Responsible retailing

Recognising the needs of residents in local communities, SPAR Botswana focuses on supporting education and health initiatives, which form the foundation for a brighter future. Across the country, numerous institutions receive support in various forms, strengthening the bond between local retailers and the communities they serve.

Education support

Shelter Botswana in Maun operates a preschool for orphaned and vulnerable children, with SPAR Botswana as a key contributor. Maun, a town situated on the edge of the Okavango Delta, has a high prevalence of orphans due to illness, and often, these children do not attend school. SPAR Botswana’s partnership with Shelter Botswana provides vulnerable children with the necessary tools to learn, grow, and thrive. This aid also comes in the form of groceries, helping the shelter meet the needs of its residents.

Kachikau Primary School, which is located in the Chobe District, is one of the only schools in the district which has a disabilities and special needs unit. Support was given recently in the form of wheelchairs and essential supplies for these incredible learners. Together with other supporters, this helps the school to assist as many pupils as possible.

Initiatives focused on women

A little kindness goes a long way, especially for new moms. In collaboration with Mummy’s Angels, SPAR Botswana helps make the journey into motherhood a little easier. This unique initiative provides essential items to vulnerable new mothers and babies, giving them the support they need. This includes shopping vouchers enabling moms to purchase essentials in SPAR stores.

In 2024, SPAR Botswana partnered with Woman2Woman to support its mission of empowering women and girls through education and knowledge. Books can inspire, and SPAR Botswana is proud to contribute to a future where dreams can be created. Knowledge can help transform communities through access to digital education and technology.

These are just some examples of the community initiatives in which SPAR Botswana and its independent retailers are involved.
