“At SPAR, we emphasise local agriculture. Every day, Austrian farmers achieve great things, oftentimes producing the best food in the world in harmony with nature. As the largest partner of local agriculture, we would like to support this commitment with the new personalised own brand line”, said SPAR Austria Board member Markus Kaser.
Small animal, great impact
There is a good reason SPAR Austria launched the new own brand range with honey. Bees are hugely important to agriculture. About 1/3 of our food – including countless types of vegetables, fruits, nuts, and spices – is directly or indirectly dependent on pollination by insects.
There are 4,000 types of vegetables in Europe that are pollinated thanks to the bees. This makes the task of local beekeepers even more essential, as they ensure the preservation of biological diversity and thus a thriving ecosystem.
Strong commitment to our ecosystem
Five domestic beekeepers are working closely with SPAR Austria on launching the new own brand range. In addition to selling their high-quality products nationwide, they also make a positive contribution to the environment.
“At SPAR, we would like to support this commitment to our ecosystem. Austrian honey is not only a culinary product, but it also ensures the continued existence of bee colonies and our biodiversity”, added Markus Kaser.
Together with the beekeepers, SPAR is also campaigning against the use of glyphosate and other plant and insect poisons that have a fatal effect on human health and the environment.
A taste of regionality
The finest blossom honey from Burgenland, gently harvested honey from the Weinviertel region or aromatic forest and meadow honey from southern Styria – these kinds of honey combine the best of the blossoming diversity of our nature in one.
“It is a 100% regional product and not only evokes childhood memories, but also makes you crave more”, said Markus Kaser.
The honey from the five domestic beekeepers is the first addition to SPAR Austria’s new own brand line. SPAR Austria will extend the range in the future and will put many more domestic farmers and producers in the spotlight.
