The sales area is nearly twice the size of the previous SPAR supermarket. This enables the supermarket to offer a much broader product range with a strong focus on freshness and regionality. Wide aisles, plenty of natural light and a modern layout ensure that customers can quickly find their way around and do their shopping in a relaxed atmosphere.
A key highlight is the fresh produce market which brings together fruit and vegetables, bread and pastries, and delicatessen items. In the deli section, the EUROSPAR team provides expert advice and personal service. The new digital price labels are smart, always up to date and also reduce the workload for employees. Another new addition is the spacious non-food area, offering kitchenware, household items, decorative products and toys.
A photovoltaic system on the roof, LED lighting, and modern heating and cooling with heat recovery ensure highly efficient operations. Customers also benefit from 131 extra-wide free parking spaces and four fast-charging e‑charging stations. A noise-reduced delivery zone makes the location even more future-fit. The green areas are automatically watered, and a special filter system in the car park cleans surface water, allowing for controlled drainage.
Christoph Holzer, Managing Director of SPAR Styria and Southern Burgenland, said:
“We are starting 2026 with the most modern local retail offer in Burgenland. The newly built EUROSPAR supermarket focuses on a pleasant shopping atmosphere and maximum energy efficiency. The larger sales area, modern shop design and sustainable technologies create a contemporary market structure that will benefit the people in the region in the long term.”

The origins of the SPAR brand in Austria date back to 1954. The current SPAR AG was created in 1970 when the original founding families joined other regional wholesalers to form SPAR Austria AG, a 100% privately owned Austrian company. Company-owned stores operate throughout the country in the multi-format retail strategy developed since the 1960’s, whilst independent retailers operate under sub-license from SPAR Austria and continue building the brand’s presence.
