SPAR Austria invests €24 million in state-of-the-art INTERSPAR Hypermarket

May 23, 2023 IN THE CATEGORY: Store openings

A new INTERSPAR Hypermarket in Gänserndorf, Lower Austria, recently opened at the location of the former EUROSPAR store, which was demolished in the spring of 2022. During the renovation work, a small INTERSPAR store was temporarily available to local residents. With a sales area of 2,700m2, the new hypermarket offers a large variety of everyday products, fresh food, high-quality customer service, and an adjoining restaurant with a terrace. The new INTERSPAR Hypermarket provides employment to 124 team members, including all 74 former EUROSPAR employees.

One-Stop-Shopping

The new hypermarket has been expanded by 900m2, featuring an extended product range and additional customer services. One highlight of the store is its extensive range of non-food products, including kitchen accessories and household and electrical appliances. The store also offers an extensive delicatessen department, an INTERSPAR bakery, a fresh food section, and an INTERSPAR wine world. At the information desk, trained service employees are available to answer questions, provide information or assist customers with their orders from the INTERSPAR online shop or weinwelt.at.

Regional product offer

The INTERSPAR Gänserndorf offers more than 350 regional products from 51 producers. These products are easily identifiable through the heart-shaped apple symbol on the packaging, which represents the INTERSPAR initiative “The best from home!” and showcases the diversity of the region. This initiative, in support of local producers and small family businesses, has been running for 13 years now.

INTERSPAR restaurant

The instore INTERSPAR restaurant, with 157 seats, is open for customers from early morning until late at night. The menu includes an extensive breakfast buffet until 10:30 a.m. and hot meals until closing time. Guests can choose from the salad buffet or enjoy pasta, bowls, grilled food, or one of the local or international dishes available. The coffee bar offers a variety of coffee specialties and warm snacks throughout the day.

Focus on sustainability

All new INTERSPAR Hypermarkets implement the latest sustainability technologies. Store equipment, furniture, and shelves are equipped with energy-saving LED lighting. Additionally, the building has a concrete core activation system, and preparations for a photovoltaic system on the roof are underway.

Johannes Holzleitner, Managing Director of INTERSPAR Austria, commented on the new store: “Here in Gänserndorf, we were able to transform a very successful EUROSPAR Supermarket into a wonderful INTERSPAR Hypermarket. In the most modern local supermarket in the Marchfeld region, we now offer the people of Gänserndorf the full range of products on a 2,700m2 sales area, along with plenty of services and enjoyment from morning to night in our INTERSPAR restaurant.”
