SPAR South Africa has renewed its sponsorship of Netball South Africa (NSA) until 2027, continuing a partnership that began in 2000. This 24-year relationship is the longest team title sponsorship in South Africa, with SPAR South Africa's support for the SPAR Proteas and NSA ranking among the country's longest federation sponsorships.

New sponsorship details

The renewed sponsorship covers the SPAR Proteas, the SPAR Baby Proteas (Under-21 team), national senior and Under-21 championships, a home Test series, and the SPAR Netball Challenge with international teams. Additionally, SPAR will be an associate sponsor for the national Fast Five Senior team, the Telkom Netball League, and the men’s national championships.

SPAR Group Marketing Director, Keegan Alicks, emphasised the brand-building opportunities in women’s sports, particularly netball. “The majority of our customers are women, and we believe we have to support them in return,” said Alicks. He highlighted SPAR South Africa’s role in the historic 2023 Netball World Cup in Cape Town, reinforcing the company’s commitment to the sport and its long-standing relationship with NSA.

Empowering women through sport

NSA President Cecilia Molokwane expressed her excitement over the continued partnership, praising SPAR South Africa for its unwavering support. “SPAR has been a pillar of support, providing commitment and resources that have been instrumental in our success”, she said. Molokwane emphasised that SPAR South Africa’s investment in women’s sports not only supports netball but also contributes to empowering women across South Africa.

“SPAR is more than a sponsor; it epitomizes women’s empowerment”, Molokwane continued, acknowledging SPAR’s role in inspiring young girls and shaping a brighter future for the nation. As South Africa marks 30 years of democracy, she highlighted the progress made in women’s sports, crediting it to the foundations laid by courageous women of the past.
