Meat and meat products manufactured in the Regnum meat plant Perbál will be available in SPAR stores nationwide. SPAR will synchronise production processes at the new plant in Perbál with those at SPAR’s meat plant in Bicske.
SPAR Hungary also plans to integrate innovative technologies in the Perbál plant, including modernised cooling technologies. In the next two years, the company will seek to upgrade the plant to ISO 22 000 standards.
“SPAR aims to offer its customers high-quality food products made as much as possible from Hungarian ingredients. Due to the increased demand for meat and meat products, we have decided to expand our production capacity”, said Gabriella Heiszler, CEO of SPAR Hungary.
“By acquiring the plant in Perbál, SPAR can increase its production capacity, and at the same time keep high-quality standards in mind. This strengthens our position on the domestic meat market”, said Gabriella Heiszler.
“The plant in Perbál became operational under the SPAR Brand on 2 November. The number of employees in SPAR’s meat production division will be increased by 200 to a total of 600. In the last year, we produced 40,000 tonnes of meat products. Through this acquisition, we will expand our capacity significantly from 2021 onwards”, added Ferenc Horváth, Managing Director of SPAR Hungary’s meat plant.

About SPAR Hungary
The first SPAR Supermarket opened in Hungary in 1992, following the acquisition by ASPIAG (Austria SPAR International AG) of a majority stake in General Kereskedelmi Rt. Since its launch, SPAR Hungary has been actively involved in the development of the retail industry in the country.
The move to license independent retailers to operate the SPAR Brand has proven successful for Hungary, with new stores meeting the needs of a larger number of shoppers. The retailers benefit from becoming part of the SPAR organisation with access to own brand products, operating systems and the brand, whilst consumers enjoy the increased number of store locations.
