Lukas Wiesmüller’s appointment as SPAR Austria's Head of Sustainability reflects the retailer's commitment to addressing the growing importance of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues and societal expectations for sustainable business practices.

To tackle challenges related to deposits, energy, the supply chain, and other sustainability concerns more effectively, SPAR Austria has strengthened its sustainability department.

On 1 December 2024, Lukas Wiesmüller took over the management of the new, expanded sustainability division, bringing extensive experience to the position. He has been involved in SPAR Austria’s sustainability efforts since 2012, including preparing the company’s sustainability report, and served as head of sustainability, group PR and information since 2017. This area is now being outsourced and upgraded.

In his new role, Lukas Wiesmüller oversees the company’s sustainability report across the SPAR Austria Group and handles technical sustainability matters, such as reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, minimising food waste, and improving packaging. He also played a key role in the introduction of the deposit system in Austria and represents SPAR Austria in various working groups and committees.
