Nearly 600 delegates came together for James Hall & Co. Ltd's SPAR Inspire event, which provided insights in supporting independent retailers to futureproof their business.

Success in retail

The event featured success stories and case studies which showcased redefining store offers. This includes SPAR UK’s award-winning own brand assortment of 750 products, which is an increasingly imperative part of the instore offer, as well as the continuous development of SPAR International Own Brand ranges which are available to SPAR retailers in the North of England. Such emphasis on own brand assortments has been showcased through IGD polling showing 68% of shoppers are now purchasing more own label products due to the rising cost of living and 57% saying they would pay more for quality own label products in convenience stores.

Throughout the day, 24 independent SPAR retailers shared their retail success stories in different categories, ranging from food-to-go, to meal solutions, dairy, bread, and cakes. Focusing on food-to-go, customer campaigns, retail technology, value and promotion strategies, as well as fresh produce provided further insightful learnings for all participants.

Developing relationships

A total of 58 leading suppliers were in attendance at a tradeshow held alongside the event while local brands were also showcased.

Peter Dodding, Sales Director at James Hall & Co. Ltd and Chairman of the SPAR Northern Guild, said: “SPAR Inspire has raised the bar again and I truly hope retailers in attendance will take stock of learnings and be motivated to invest in their business and capitalise as the future of convenience retailing changes.

“I would like to thank our valued suppliers for their generosity in supporting SPAR Inspire as, without their continued support, we would not be able to deliver the event.”
